The SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) were initially proposed in a strong attempt to protect copyright laws here in the United States. The music, film and art industries have been hit hard by people stealing or illegally selling their copyright material all over the world by rogue websites, particularly sites that are run and listed overseas. The fear is that with these bills comes uncertainty about where the laws stop and others start. Both SOPA and PIPA, as defined, could run into other areas and people all over the country are concerned that its reach could eventually affect our Freedom of Speech.
Visualize sitting down at your computer to and get on "Google" and nothing comes up. Then you type in "YouTube" and again, nothing. If these bills are approved by Congress this is exactly what could happen. They will affect blogs, websites, companies, jobs and the list continues. If this makes you stop and think, it should. The reality is very serious.
