Projector tuning is when you adapt the projector that you own, by changing the basic setup for the device. You can improve the contrast, correct grayscales and solve movie colour problems all be adapting a few of the main settings.
The whole idea of tuning the performance of the projector is to make that device better than what it was sold as. Basically upgrading the device so that it several generations ahead of where it should be. This means that you could potentially buy a cheaper device and then tune it so that it is better than the newer devices being released.
The reason that projector tuning is so simple is because the manufacturers often do not put out the best device, just the device that sounds the best. The manufacturer would do this to push the lumen count as high as they can, as this is really all a customer looks for when buying a device.
