The Start Of Free MMO's - How They Make Money

Before the start of Free MMO's way back in the start 1990's, the costs needed to run an online game to cover its servers and constantly needed game updates forced companies to sit back and discover a new direction on where this kind of money can come from.

First glance managers decided on top of buying the game, a annual subscription would also be needed from its consumers for the mmo to continue to finance its constant wave of expenses and wages. Some of the early subscription models actually had the customer instead of paying every month like we have and know of now, but making them pay hourly!

This progressed into consumers focusing on one game at a time due to them not willing to pay for another. Incomes the birth of "World of Warcraft". This game swooped in and claimed reigns of the genre. Gamers where pulled in by its vast array of combat mechanics and player grouping systems plus its ever expanding nature of new game expansions and new content which left gamers with always having something new and exciting to do.
