There are two types of programming languages (PL), one is Server Side Scripting and another one is client side script. Server side PLs are used for developing web applications. Client side PLs are used for developing computer applications. You can learn both, but I recommend you to choose any one based on your interest or your career.
If you choose server side programming, there are lots, some are PHP, ASP, JSP, etc., when compared with Client side programming, server side programming will be very easy. But just learning PHP or ASP is not enough. You need to learn some more languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, etc., You also want to be strong in Database. There are different database like MySQL, Oracle, DB2, etc., MySQL is widely used database.
