Ruby on Rails Development – A Landmark in Ruby Programming

Brainchild of David Heinemeier Hansson, better known as DHH in the Ruby community, Ruby on Rails truly lived up to its name. Despite of the language being extremely favorable for intensive web application development, there was a much desperate need for a reliable web development framework. It was the month of July in 2004 when DHH first released this framework as open source; however, he did not share ‘commit right' to the project until later in 2005 with version 1.0 of this framework released in December the same year.

The turning point in the life of Ruby on Rails development came when Apple announced that it would ship this framework with its Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard. The availability of Ruby on Rails framework to Ruby programmers clubbed with the remarkable functionality of this framework instantly made it one of the most sought-after web development platforms for Ruby programmers. Ever since then, the popularity of Rails development has grown manifolds amongst ruby programmers.
