Adopting the new technology should then be based on our personal preference not previously debunked myths. This has been the case with the various misconceptions surrounding Cloud Computing in general but also in respect to Web Content Management (WCM). Several analyst firms, like Gartner and Forrester Research, and vendor alliance groups have stood on the side of computing trends like cloud computing and related offerings such as CRM and WCM. However, these pervasive myths still remain in the minds of many people across all levels of organizations so we find it important to spend some time addressing them.
Myth 1: Internal security problem one of the common myths about cloud computing is that it has inherent security issues. However, we must keep in mind that the vulnerabilities associated with cloud computing are similar to those confronted by traditional enterprise set-ups.
Ideally, cloud computing is the combination of operating systems, applications & content operating systems, applications, and content operating from a data center alike other enterprise data centers.
The question of security is a point of concern for cloud services vendors because they need to meet all security related commitments to their clients. The idea is to allow the corporate IT professionals to move some of their IT functions to the cloud, which relieves them from the stress of maintaining high security and performance.
In either case, the client always has full control of which information they feel comfortable managing in the cloud or behind their own firewalls. The adoption of a cloud solution is not a zero-sum game when it comes to security.
Myth 2: Cloud computing solutions are costly because of hidden costs and ongoing investments ‘Dial up' and ‘Dial down' are the most important factors of using cloud computing solutions. This means that you need to only pay for the service that you avail and for the duration of time you use the service.
