Introduction to VLANs
A VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network or Virtual LAN) is a local network comprising a set of machines in a logical, not physical.
Indeed, in a local area network communication between different machines is governed by the physical architecture. With virtual networks (VLANs) it is possible to overcome the limitations of the physical architecture (geographic constraints, addressing constraints, ...) by defining a logical segmentation (software) based on a cluster of machines with criteria (MAC addresses, port numbers, protocol, etc.)..
Types of VLAN
Several types of VLANs are defined according to the switching criteria and the level at which it occurs:
* A VLAN level 1 (also called port-based VLANs, English Port-Based VLAN) defines a virtual network according to the connection ports on the switch;
